How to lay a vinyl floor around round objects

Is there a toilet, pillar or other circular object in the room? Don’t worry, we have a perfect solution.

Start with the underlay. Measure the round shape and cut out one half from a piece of underlay and the other half from a second piece. Slide the two pieces around the round object to fit snugly against one another and tape them into place. Make sure that the underlay does not overlap.

Now it’s time for the floor. We will start by scribing a pattern. On a big piece of paper, trace the outline of the circular object. Make sure that the paper fits approximately around the pillar or other object and use tape to keep it in place. You should also indicate the distance of the round object to the last row of planks you placed on the paper. Make a cut in the paper at the point where the flooring that you have already installed ends.

Pro Tip: Use a piece of plank and trace around the shape of the circular object, drawing a small line on the paper at every interval. Move across the entire object, making sure that you have drawn the curve perfectly. Later on, we will use these lines to draw the circular shape onto the planks.

Click several planks tightly together, making sure that your surface is broad enough to enable the entire object to fit, as well as several extra planks for stability. Take the piece of paper and tape it onto your planks in the right position. Use the plank that you used to measure the circular object and place it against the lines on the paper once again, drawing a line with your pencil on the other side. Repeat this procedure for all the lines that you have drawn on the paper. This way, you will be able to draw the shape of the pillar, toilet or other round object on to the vinyl. Have you drawn the entire circle? Then you can put away the paper.

Carefully cut out the shape following the line that you have drawn. Watch out for your fingers! Check to see if the planks fit around the round object. You can finish your work with elastic silicone to prevent any moisture from leaking through. Voilà! You have now laid flooring around your round object. You can easily remove the pencil markings with a damp cloth.
