How to replace a damaged vinyl click plank

Do you have a plank in your floor that is badly damaged? Don’t worry, there is no need to lay an entirely new floor! We will now show you how to replace a damaged plank.

  1. Let the new plank acclimatize to the room. A few hours will suffice. In the meantime, we will focus on removing the damaged plank.
  2. Mark the damaged plank so that you will remove the right one. Mark the contours of this plank with tape so that you will be able to recognize it immediately. This way, you will not accidentally cut into any adjacent planks.
  3. Make an incision in the length of the plank using the saw, being sure to stay 10 cm away from the ends. Make four new incisions starting at the corners up to your saw line. This way, you will easily be able to remove the plank. Make sure not to saw into any adjacent planks.
  4. Once the plank has been removed, vacuum thoroughly. If you have damaged the underlay, repair this with a little tape.
  5. Take a new plank and draw a saw line on the click side. Do the same thing on the underside of the plank so that you will instantly see the place up to where the edge came. We will be gluing this part later on.
  6. Saw off the grooves using your plunge saw. Watch out for your cable!
Pro Tip: To trace a perfect line you can also use a second plank that you lay on top of the tongue of the plank.
  7. Apply a little cold weld bonding compound to the edge of the short and long sides of the adjacent planks. Apply this to the tongue of the plank already in the floor as well. Don’t use too much glue.
  8. Place the new plank in the opening, as closely as possible to the short side and click the longer side into the floor. Wipe away any excess glue.
Pro Tip: Use cold weld bonding compound. Regular glue is too thick.
  9. Distribute a weight of approximately 40 kg across the new plank and allow to dry for at least two hours. Your floor will now be as good as new!
